The recent rain we have been getting is turning everything so lush and green. It’s truly lovely. This picture was taken in the evening when the sun was starting to set.
I have several sites to share with you this week. The first is 20 Fast Dinner Ideas from Real Simple. If you can get dinner on quickly, then you can get outside and enjoy this spring weather.
I loved this article from Grown & Flown: parenting never ends. I think anyone who has teenage daughters can relate (although boys might be like this too!). The article is titled The Floordrobe: True Confessions From the Walk-On Closet.
For you writers and aspiring writers out there, check out Writers Weekly. I subscribed with my email, and I receive weekly “paying market for writers.”
Last weekend I did this simple and fun yoga practice from yoga with Adriene. It only took about 15 minutes and it felt sooooo good!
Speaking of exercise, I think we all know we feel so much better when we get the exercise we need. I found a great, simple article titled: Athlete Tested, Science Approved: 3 Simple Ways to Make Fitness Stick.
The sun is shining, there is a light breeze, and it looks to be a beautiful day. Wherever you are, and wherever this finds you, may you take a moment to take a deep breath and be thankful for all the good in your life.
The other morning I went for a nice, long walk outside. I was tired of hitting the tread mill and I needed to think. I thought being outside would help me think more clearly. I put on a stocking cap, knit gloves, and an old, worn jacket. I chose not to take my dog. I didn’t want any distractions, just me and my thoughts.
I walked and walked and got some clarity. It was still fairly dark outside; the sun wasn’t up yet, but it was light enough to see my path. I ended up by the nature walk close to my house. I was feeling relaxed and at peace as I walked. I looked up and I saw my husband from a distance walking with our two dogs (one is my older yellow lab, Sam; and the other is a little chiweenie, Hulk, who is my daughter’s dog). My first thought was My Prince Charming! I was, of course, thinking about my husband. But then I realized Sam was off his leash and he was galloping toward me. My heart just overflowed with joy. I know it sounds silly, but I wondered how he knew it was me. We were pretty far apart. I just started smiling ear to ear – to see that much enthusiasm and excitement just because I appeared in the distance. No big mystery why we all love our pets so much. Because they love us so much.
I hope this post finds you well. It’s Monday and we have had a lot of much needed rain in my part of the state of Kansas. I am very grateful.
Have a wonderful week!
Happy Monday! This is a picture of a beautiful horse that I was fortunate to spend over three years with. I have loved horses my whole life. I love dogs, but I like the smell of horses better. They are beautiful creatures that can have extremely giving and patient hearts.
On to other things you might enjoy. I was at my writing group this past Sunday and our leader reminded us again of a podcast she really enjoys called The Savvy Painter. I listened to a podcast on the way home, and it was good.
I haven’t made this recipe, but I plan to at some point. It looks quite decadent. It’s called Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Brownie Layer Cake. It looks pretty amazing. I think it would take me awhile to make and I think it would have a kazillion amount of calories. At some point I’ll make it and enjoy it very much.
I have a new book to add to my reading list. My sister highly recommend it. The Opposite of Everyone: A Novel.
I recently had a conversation with another blogger about not always knowing what to share on one’s blog. It’s the same question if you do any form of social media, and most of us do. I found an interesting article titled Oversharing: Why Do We Do It and How Do We Stop? See what you think.
I found a good article that is insightful and helpful. You might enjoy it too. Advice College Admissions Officers Give Their own Kids.
I hope everyone is well and has a wonderful week!!
I loved this book! I bought it for a close friend of mine who is a talented artist. I thought she would like the book. I knew when I bought it that I would read it first. If I had the wherewithal, I would buy this book for every friend I know who has any spark of creativity in them. And, really, who doesn’t?
Most people know the author, Elizabeth Gilbert, from Eat, Pray, Love. In her newest book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, she claims:
“Creativity is sacred, and it is not sacred. What we make matters enormously, and it doesn’t matter at all. We toil alone, and we are accompanied by spirits. We are terrified, and we are brave. Art is a crushing chore and a wonderful privilege. The work wants to be made, and it wants to be made through you.”
I found this book encouraging, helpful, delightful, loving, and just plain terrific. She really gets to the point of how we can let go of our fears and emotional drama, and just create for the love of creating.
Big Magic was fun to read and I highly recommend it.
Okay, is this one of the cutest pictures you have ever seen or what? I love it. A good friend of mine got married last fall and this was her flower girl and ring bearer. It was a western theme wedding and every detail was perfect. She and her new husband live on a ranch in Montana.
I really enjoyed this, and I wanted to share it with you: 20 Questions That Could Change Your Life.
I love this article! There is a common belief that teenagers are quite challenging, and this author says quite the opposite in her article 7 Secrets to Raising Awesome, Functional Teenagers.
I recently read this article that I found enlightening and helpful. You might enjoy reading The Evolution of Anxiety: Why We Worry and What to Do About It.
For most people visiting beaches is delightful. AFAR offers a list of the World’s Best Beaches. Sign me up; I am ready to go!!
I follow a young lady on Instagram with an account name of happsters. She recently got together with a few friends and gave away flowers to anyone who walked by. She suggests we should all do random acts of kindness. Click on the link above that’s highlighted and you can see a picture and read their story. Very cool!
Last but not least, I love to simplify; and this recipe is one of the simplest I have ever tried. It’s a three ingredient crock pot recipe. It was delicious! Slow Cooker Sweet and Spicy Pulled Pork Sandwiches.
Hope this post finds you well. Have a wonderful week!!
